About the Undergraduate Economics Council

The Undergraduate Economics Council (UEC) is the University of Toronto Mississauga’s primary student-run economics organization. UEC is recognized at UTM as both an academic society and a student-run organization by University of Toronto Mississauga Student Union (UTMSU). We represent all UTM students that are enrolled in an economics course, as well as prospective students. UEC is officially affiliated with the Department of Economics at UTM. As a result, UEC works to serve as a bridge between the economics faculty, administration and economics students at UTM.

Mission Statement

UEC’s primary mission is to provide valuable opportunities to current and prospective economics and finance students and help them excel in academics, adapt to our university environment, and foster their future potential in an accountable, ethical and responsible way. UEC strives to heighten UTM's level of economics and finance awareness through the provision of high quality academic and social events organized throughout the year.

Vision Statement

Our desired future goal is to continue to be the fastest-growing academic society on campus with a high volume of involvement and partnerships. UEC strives to provide high-quality, useful and creative events to encourage students to develop themselves on an academic and social level in order to prepare them for a professional environment.

UEC strives to become a facilitator to help students find their true career path through networking opportunities with professionals and faculty professors. We want to be able to serve as a bridge between students and the department of economics and external organizations to foster an academic environment.

Moreover, UEC strives to facilitate a strong student-professor relationship, which provides UTM students with the opportunity to truly interact with their professors outside of the classroom context. This has been done through such avenues as social gatherings, economics and finance discussions and other student-professor social events throughout the past years.
