Undergraduate Research Spotlight
Pareto Undergraduate Journal of New Economists
Vol 2. No. 1, Issue 2024
pp. 73 - pp. 95

It is with great excitement that I introduce Research Spotlight, a new feature in Pareto celebrating the research journeys of undergraduate students in UTM Economics. At its core, research is about curiosity—asking questions, seeking answers, and uncovering the unknown.
When I began as a research assistant, I wasn’t sure what to expect or how I could contribute. Through Research Spotlight, we aim to showcase the possibilities of research by sharing stories from students who’ve embraced this journey. In this inaugural feature, four remarkable undergraduates reflect on their unique paths—whether as research assistants, research opportunity students, or research fellows —and the challenges, triumphs, and growth they’ve experienced.
Their stories remind us that research isn’t just for seasoned scholars or confined to labs and libraries. It’s an invitation to follow your curiosity, dive deep into meaningful questions, and make an impact. While it requires effort and resilience, the rewards are profound: discovery, learning, and the confidence that comes from meaningful work.
I hope these narratives inspire you to see research as more than an academic milestone—a journey of self-discovery and possibility. Curiosity has the power to transform not just what you know, but how you see the world and your role in it.
